Life skills
At RSPCA centres, we create safe, comfortable environments for cats. Once they feel secure, we provide every kind of care they need, like essential life skills to get them ready for forever homes.
For shy cats like Minx, our journey begins with patient socialisation. We start by sitting near their pod, offering treats and letting them approach us. Gradually, we introduce handling and grooming – crucial experiences for vet visits and daily care.
With Minx, this gentle approach paid off as she not only accepted strokes but discovered a love for grooming!

Physical exercise
Thanks to your Sponsorship, we can tailor physical activity to suit every cat, helping them stay healthy and active.
While cats generally get exercise through play, some need extra support. Auben was overweight, so we created a special routine for him. We encouraged him to walk the cattery corridor twice daily, using food trails to keep him moving. This gentle exercise helped him improve his health and lose weight.
Your support also provides climbing structures and toys, making sure all cats can enjoy appropriate physical activity.

Play and building bonds
Play isn’t just fun – it’s a key part of every kind of care your support provides.
Auben loved feather fishing rod toys, which tapped into his natural hunting instincts. Play sessions mimic the stalk, pounce, and chase behaviours cats would use in the wild, releasing feel-good hormones.
We encourage both solo and interactive play, depending on each cat’s comfort level. For cats less interested in toys, like Minx, we focus on gentle interactions. Your loyalty means we can offer varied play experiences, keeping cats mentally stimulated and physically active.
Mental wellbeing
Your Sponsorship helps us create engaging spaces for cats during their stay.
We provide scratch posts, cosy hiding spots, and high-up resting areas in pods, so that cats can practise their natural behaviours.
We also use a calming spray that replicates the smell of cats’ natural relaxing pheromones, to help reduce stress for nervous cats like Minx. This tailored care keeps cats content and comfortable, making it easier for them to adjust to their forever homes.
