Babs the staffy was chained up in the sun with nothing to eat or drink

One of our inspectors found Babs in filthy conditions, tethered with a metal chain to a fence. She was emaciated and anxious, with a range of health issues, but thanks to the kindness of people like you, she’s been given a chance to blossom into a happier, more confident dog.

She was very timid, lethargic and left chained to a fence

RSPCA Inspector Demi Hodby was called out to investigate a complaint received about a thin dog left outside with no water, shelter or food. The caller provided a short video of the dog, which showed Babs tethered to a fence.

Babs looked to have very recently given birth, but there was no sign of her puppies. Her eyes were sunken in and her ribs, spine, hip and skull bones were visible. She was very timid, and lethargic, and had been left chained to the fence to stop her from running away.

Donations from our generous supporters make it possible to get to animals like Babs before it’s too late. Donate today to make an impact.

When we offered her water, Babs went to it really quickly, almost knocking it out of my hand. It was clear she hadn’t had water in some time.

Thanks to our incredible donors we were able to help

After finding the owner, Demi got permission to take Babs to a vet, who assessed that she was emaciated. She also had several eye problems, which they suspected she’d been suffering with for a long time.

Babs was vaccinated and treated for parasites. Her eye was treated with antibiotics and an injection of anti-inflammatory pain relief, and she was prescribed anti-hormonal medication. She was then transferred to our Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch to continue her rehabilitation journey.

As part of her rehabilitation journey, Babs stayed with one of our foster carers to help restore her relationship to food. She’s learned that she’ll always have enough to eat. Babs also spent lots of time visiting the homes of our volunteers, making friendships with people and rebuilding her confidence.

Sweet and friendly Babs is now a completely different dog. It wasn't long before someone fell in love with her and gave her a forever home. Thanks to kind people like you, Babs can now have the long and happy life she deserves.

Happy endings like this would not be possible without the generous and continued support of our donors.

We found two cats left by their owner without any food or water - they were suffering, but now Wednesday and Pugsley have been given fresh starts.

Hazel

Hazel is one of the eight cats we discovered in a squalid bungalow, suffering and at risk of contracting serious diseases. Thanks to you, we were able to rescue her.

Ethel

Matted, unwell, and covered in fleas, sweet Ethel was in a bad state when we got to her. Now that she’s found her forever home, Ethel has a safe, happy life ahead of her.
