Five Minutes With Paul Maguin
How long have you worked for the RSPCA?
Just over seven months.
Tell us a little bit about your role – how would you describe your job to a five-year-old?
I make animals comfortable and make them feel better when some bad things happen to them, and make sure they can be happy in the future.
What motivates you to get up for work?
Knowing that the animals under my care are leaving with a more positive outcome than when they came in. I make a positive impact on their lives.
What’s your favourite part of working at the RSPCA?
Meeting animals every day!
Can you tell us about the most memorable animal you’ve cared for?
Lola, a lurcher who was very scared. I built her a nice bed with toys, and she was so happy to chill with me throughout the weekend. My heart was warmed.
How can members of the public help wildlife?
Education about animals. For example, if you find a hedgehog in your garden, that is where they live – let them be unless they’re clearly injured.
The RSPCA was founded in 1824. What moment in time, in the last 200 years, would you have liked to work for the RSPCA and why?
Probably during the financial crisis in the early 1900s. Many animals needed help during that time.
