Mabel was starved and close to death

The energetic, happy and healthy Mabel today is a far cry from the frightened and emaciated dog on the brink of death I came across when a concerned vet reported her case to us. It is truly amazing and Mabel's story shows how you can make a life-changing difference to animals by donating today.

She was a skeleton and so weak she could not stand - my heart broke for her

I had the pleasure of bumping into Mabel six months after rescuing her when I was out walking with my dog – the change was incredible, she was running around, playing and full of love.

But when I first met her she was a skeleton who had almost given up on life. She had been taken to the vet by her owner but was already completely emaciated and so weak she was unable to stand unaided. She had such a sad look on her face and these big, beautiful brown eyes which stared into your soul - my heart broke for her.

It’s because of your generous donations that animals like Mabel are able to receive the vital treatment they desperately need.

She made a remarkable recovery - doubling her weight in a few weeks.

Mabel spent 10 days in veterinary care before going into an RSPCA foster home to continue her recovery. In just three weeks, under a strict feeding plan, the Staffy who had originally weighed just 7.2kg had almost doubled in weight.

She soon became brighter and lively and was moved to our Millbrook Animal Centre, in Surrey, where dedicated staff continued her rehabilitation before she was adopted a month later. Her owners say she continues to blossom and she is adored by everyone she meets and greets.

This winter more and more animals will face neglect like Mabel - we need your support to continue our life-saving work.
