Westmorland Branch
The RSPCA Westmorland Branch is a charity registered in England and Wales under charity number 232236 and is a branch of the national RSPCA responsible for its own fundraising. The Westmorland Branch was registered as a charity in its own right in1965. Whilst we support and work closely with the national charity, we are a separately run autonomous charity. We are responsible for generating most of our own funds to help and care for local animals. Our monies come from our Charity shop, from fundraising events, donations and legacies. The RSPCA only exists because of public donations.
Funds raised locally are spent locally on animal welfare.
The Branch consists of volunteers who give their time, much of which is spent fundraising, doing home visits or looking after and exercising the animals in our care. We have a Branch Manager, Shop Manager and Shop Assistants.
What?:
In addition to caring for ill treated animals the Branch re-homes dogs and cats from our Branch funded Kennels and Cattery. We work closely with other RSPCA animal homes, carrying out home visits to help them find homes for the animals in their care. We also work with the RSPCA Inspectors to help reduce the number of cruelty cases.
All animals are neutered and all dogs and cats are microchipped before re homing.
We also try to assist people who cannot afford neutering and/or who need urgent medical care for their pets if they are in receipt of certain Income Related Benefits and we offer a microchip service for a donation.
Where?:
The RSPCA Westmorland Branch serves a huge area incorporating the old County Boundary of Westmorland: stretching beyond Shap in the North, Brough in the East, Kirkby Lonsdale in the South and Grasmere in the West: also including Silverdale, Windermere and Appleby.
The office and shop are based in Kendal with the Kennels and Cattery are few miles away.
