In spite of his heft, Hutch is not a brave fellow - but then that’s often the way when it comes to cats, isn’t it? A large size does not necessarily betoken a similarly large degree of courage, if anything the opposite: the larger the cat, the greater their cowardice. Rather than throw his considerable weight around, instead, what little courage Hutch possesses is lost within the vastness of his person, like a needle in a haystack. He slinks and hides, he watches with those great yellow eyes of his, he dares not approach - at first. But given time to settle, given time to make himself at home, a different Hutch emerges. This Hutch is a cuddler, a purrer, a lap-sitter, a shoulder-sloucher, a heart-stealer. It can take him a while to trust someone but, once he does so, all the effort is worth it. However, given his nature, Hutch would not suit a rambunctious, clamorous, noisy kind of home; he’d need a settled environment, one where he could find a quiet place to hide himself away, to get his head around the change, and then - as a consequence - blossom…
