Here's Our Branch Adoption Process
We always have cats and dogs at the branch that are looking for their ‘forever homes’ some of the animals have not had the best start in life but they are still willing to show us love and affection. It’s our job to make sure that all our animals are re-homed in the best possible environment. If you are looking to adopt or foster any of our animals please read through the information and guidelines shown below before contacting us.
1. First Steps
All animals in branch care are shown on the website – please take the time to read the text on each animal. We will provide you with as much background information as we possibly can. In cases where an animal has been signed over to us by the inspectorate (cruelty or neglect cases) we may not have vast amounts of information on the animal – we will indicate this and explain the circumstances as fully as we can. We will also try to advise if an animal can be re-homed with other pets or children. Please fully read the information as this will indicate if the animal would be suitable for your circumstances.
2. Contacting Us
Once you have found a pet that matches your circumstances and you wish to discuss further or arrange a viewing you can either call us on 07949 229955 or send us an email here. Please do not be put off by any questions we may need to ask – we are the only voices that the animals have and we simply want to make sure that the animal can settle in a loving ‘forever home’ Our staff can also arrange for you to visit the kennels or fosterer and view the animal – all viewings must be by appointment only. If you live outside our branch area please see below.
3. Next Steps
If you are still interested in adopting the animal after the viewing we will arrange to do a ‘home visit.’ This is where a member of branch staff will come to your home and review the information you provided when you first called or emailed us. If you live out of our branch area we may ask your local branch to carry out the visit on our behalf (in these circumstances it may be better to have the home check carried out before viewing the animal)
4. Final Steps & Adoption Fees
When the home check has been completed successfully we will proceed with the adoption process and ask you to sign the official forms. This is when the adoption fee will become payable. The fees for adoption are £70.00 for a cat & £125 for a dog. We do ask that the fees be paid in cash at the time of adoption (we have had cheques returned unpaid in the past!) As per RSPCA policy all our animals will be: Neutered, Micro Chipped & Vaccinated - this is included with the adoption fee and not charged as an extra.
5. Branch Support
We are always here to help you either before, during or after the adoption process. You can contact us by phone, email or text if you require any advice. Our phones and emails are manned by volunteers, if you are asked to leave a message we will call you back as soon as we can. If you do not want the long term commitment of adopting a pet and you live within our branch area, why not ask about our fostering scheme? You can email us here
