Taking Your New Pet Home
Once we have received confirmation from the homevisiting team that your homevisit has been successful we will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to take your new pet home.
Please remember that some animals may have to remain in our care pending further veterinary treatment. We will keep you updated and arrange your appointment once your animal has been signed off by our vet.
On the day you take your new pet home a member of staff will give the animal a basic health check in your presence. Details of any medical reports will be given to you. We are happy to offer advice and answer any questions you may have.
At the time of adoption you will be asked to provide identification with your address on.
Every effort is made to ensure that all animals leave the centre with full medical disclosure. There will be occasions when an animal may fall ill after leaving the centre. Unfortunately the Centre cannot accept responsibility for future vet bills.
Dogs must leave the centre with a collar and lead and a harness if appropriate. These are available to purchase in our shop. All profit from the shop helps to run the centre.
In the UK, the Control of Dogs Order 1992 states that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but we would recommend this).
You can be fined up to £5,000 if your dog does not wear an identification tag
You do not have to put your dogs name on the tag, this is optional. Unfortunately dog theft is a real danger and if the thief knows the name of your dog this may help them pass on the dog to the unsuspecting new owners because it appears they know the dog because the dog responds to their name. We would therefore recommend, you do not put your dogs name on the tag.
We can engrave a tag for your dog from a selection available to purchase at reception while you wait.
Cats and Small Animals must leave the centre in a secure carrier. We often have a selection of new and second hand pet carriers available to purchase in our shop. All proceeds from the shop go to centre.
We'd really like it if you'd keep in touch and let us know how your new pet is getting on with their new life. We love receiving letters and photographs or posts on our Facebook page.
We are on hand if you need advice or guidance about any aspect of pet ownership so please get in touch if you need help with your new pet.
