Merthyr Tydfil Clinic

History of RSPCA Merthyr Tydfil Animal Clinic

The Merthyr Tydfil Animal Clinic at The Willows in Abercanaid, Merthyr Tydfil, was opened in October 2005.

The £1.2 million facility was funded by the national RSPCA and RSPCA branches in Wales, helped by a generous contribution from the Beryl Thomas Welfare Trust. This financed the running costs of the centre for the first three years.

The RSPCA national charity continues to supply funds so that the animal clinic can provide a low-cost veterinary service to people on low incomes in the surrounding community.

Initially a private veterinary practice supplied vets to the Merthyr Animal Clinic. However in 2009 the RSPCA was able to assign the funds to appoint one of their own vets to provide veterinary care.

The vet works alongside five support staff including qualified vet nurses, to provide care for patients who have to be admitted to the clinic.
