Cat Rehoming Project
The Cat Rehoming Hub is a project involving 5 RSPCA branches covering the Sunderland, East Durham, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire areas and are largely covered by the N10 Inspectorate Group. The branches involved are:
- RSPCA Darlington & District
- RSPCA Middlesbrough, South Tees & District
- RSPCA North Teesside & District
- RSPCA Northallerton, Thirsk and the Dales
- RSPCA Sunderland, Hartlepool and South Tyneside Branch
The Project was set up as a response to the overwhelming demand to provide rehabilitation and rehoming facilities for the many hundreds of cats our Inspectors pick up in the local areas.
The Cat Rehoming Hub is based near Darlington, County Durham, UK. The Hub provides a lifeline for many cats that have been rescued by our RSPCA Inspectors, which have often suffered cruelty, neglect, or have been abandoned.
Intake Policy
All of our cats come into our care via the RSPCA Inspectorate team and the supporting five RSPCA branches. We can NOT take cats from the general public. If you have an unwanted pet we recommend you take a look at the following RSPCA link for advice: https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/pets/unwantedpets
Our Rehoming Procredure
All of our cats and kittens are health checked, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and given initial flea and worming treatment. If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten please contact our co-ordinator (see below).
Our adoption Fee’s are £65 for a cat and £85 for a kitten.
Our coordinator works 5 days a week (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri and Saturdays) working 9am till 5pm.
All potential new homes are home-checked prior to adoption. When a cat has been reserved a home-check will be booked for a representative to visit the potential new home and conduct the relevant checks.
If you have any questions regarding the home-checks please feel free to contact our co-ordinator.
Sophie Moran-Barker is our dedicated co-ordinator for the Hub and she is the first point of contact regarding the RSPCA Cat Rehoming Hub. Sophie manages the cats that are in our care arranging homechecks and the rehoming of our cats.
Sophie can be contacted via email at sophie.moran-barker@rspca.org.uk or telephone on 07842 434377.

Donations and Fund Raising
The basic costs for the cattery are funded by ourselves and the other participating RSPCA branches from donations and monies we have raised. If you would like to donate to help the work of the Branch and the Cat Rehoming Hub please contact us on 01642 473 946
We are also urgently appealing for donations to provide additional enrichment for the cats, ongoing parasite control or products such as feliway to help settle them into cattery life, while they await adoption. Therefore if you would like to help the Hub directly then please consider donating via Just Giving or purchasing something from our Amazon Wishlist.
If you are interested in helping to support the Branch by volunteering your time we are currently looking to recruit additional trustees to help run and organise the Branch. If you are interested in becoming a Trustee please contact John Main, Branch Support Specialist in the first instance via email john.main@rspca.org.uk
