Originally, Nutmeg was called Gerry. He was given the name when he was found with five other young rabbits that had been dumped in a box in London. They were found during the petrol shortage in 2021, hence the name... We did worry about little Gerry as despite being very sweet and gentle, he was last of the litter to be adopted.

Thankfully we had a wonderful foster carer on hand to take him home and get him comfortable with being a pet. After being abandoned pets need a period of time to re-establish their trust in humans, and the sooner they can begin that process the better it is for them and their future owners.

We rely on our foster carers to do this essential job, and they find it very rewarding. 'It was a pleasure to foster Gerry until his forever home came along!' (Mr A, Gerry’s foster carer)

Funnily enough, now known as Nutmeg, our little Gerry-can has returned to London and has begun getting comfy in his new home.  

'Nutmeg has settled in really well and gets very excited every morning for breakfast. He’s always waiting by the door when we get up, and he loves his food! He’s even ripped the hay and nuggets bags a few times trying to get at them because apparently we’re too slow to put them down!

He’s been getting more and more confident each day and normally gets the zoomies after breakfast. He’s very funny, running around our coffee table and up and down the hallway. A couple of weeks ago he came and joined us on the sofa and now he is always climbing on us, falling asleep next to us with cuddles and strokes in the evenings, and also enjoys helping my partner with his work from home (as you can see from the picture)! He’s been starting to explore the stairs this week too but gets halfway up and then gets nervous and runs back down.

Nutmeg loves all the attention we give him. He doesn’t like being picked up at the moment, but we get lots of kisses and he falls asleep against my legs while I’m stroking him on the floor. If I stop stroking him he’ll nudge my hand until I carry on! He really is so sweet. We love him so much and we’re so glad we brought him home.

He also still loves his blue blanket that we took home with him! He digs at it and curls up to nap in the afternoons sometimes.' (Jess, Nutmeg’s new owner)
