Brave Benny’s got the happy ending he deserves

Seeing Benny settled with his loving new family, it’s easy to forget his long, hard journey back to health and happiness – and the appalling cruelty that brought him into our care. Will you help us rescue more animals from suffering?

Back from the brink

Benny was scalded so badly, over so much of his body, that he almost lost his life. Myself and my colleagues helped him through six long months of rehabilitation, and we really fell for this sweet-natured cat. So we couldn’t be happier to see him now, so well settled with the vet nurse who was with him in those first few weeks.

Benny’s new owner was involved from the beginning. She told me: “I’ll never forget the moment he came in and we saw how awful his injuries were. He must have been in agonising pain. It was so upsetting, but he was gentle and friendly despite everything he was going through. I thought then and there – if he survives, I’m going to give him a loving home.” I’m so glad that she has.

A gradual recovery

Benny’s RSPCA rescuers rushed him to emergency care, where vets worked to save his life. Evidence suggests Benny's owner deliberately scalded him with boiling water. Then they failed to take him to the vet for six days.

The little cat’s wounds were appalling. He was in intensive care for weeks and had many operations. Then he moved to our animal centre, where myself and the team cared for him with love and patience as he slowly recovered.

Benny still has to wear special vests – like this smart Hawaiian one – to stop him scratching his healing skin. But he needs one less and less. His adoring owner says he’s really enjoying his food and lots of fuss! His recovery is remarkable, and it’s all thanks to a team effort from many dedicated people.
