Crumble Appeal

Crumble is a 2-year lad who has been in the care of the RSPCA since May 2021. When he came into us he had a unexplained injury to his tail, while being treated for this he began to pull at his fur over his back and tail, at first we thought this could be pain related but when this didn’t resolve with treatment we began to explore other options for the cause and tried a number of different medications, the last one being a special allergy medication. None of these medication stopped Crumble from pulling his fur.

We currently have Crumble on a grain free diet again to minimise any chance of his food being the cause of his fur pulling.

Being in a cattery environment can be very stressful for some cats and can cause behavioural issues such as fur pulling, overgrooming etc. due to Crumble showing stressful behaviours we placed him in a foster home for a few months, unfortunately although this went some way in helping to reduce the fur pulling, he continued to do it to some degree.

From Crumble being in a foster home we discovered that Crumble has a high prey drive, loving to run and hide and pounce on chaser toys …… the more feathers the better for him.

Crumble is desperate to get out exploring the great outdoors again to run off his energy and be able to play to his heart’s content before coming home for cuddles and food (he’s a real foodie!!). Sadly for Crumble his current foster home doesn’t have safe access to the outside so he cannot fulfil these needs there.

We are appealing for a family/person who thinks they could be Crumbles forever home to come forward and offer him a foster place in their life with a view to carrying out a full adoption at a later date if his fur pulling resolves itself once he is able to be the adventurer he dreams off.

Crumbles ideal home would be one with lots of safe outdoor space for him to explore in, he could possibly go with another cat as he has no issues when he has seen other cats in the past, any children would need to be 13+ as he can be quite excitable when playing and forgets that we are on the other end of the toy
