Rehoming Joy for OJ
OJ is a boy cat who has been through a lot, but whose life has now taken happily a turn for the better. He was left alone in a house for over a year with someone just going in to feed him once a day. He got so used to his own company that he developed dislike and mistrust of people, so much so that when he was first taken in to the cattery he really struggled with people being near him.
Over time OJ gradually got better around people but he would need an adult only home with someone very much used to cats and who could take their time to build his confidence further and ideally another cat as he loves them.
Gladly for all, OJ has now found just what he needed, he now lives with Chris, and her two cats Henry and Nelson.
Here is what Chris had to say about OJ,
“Hi Everyone, Just to let you know how OJ is getting on with a couple of pictures. The cardboard box might have been a mistake as Henry took it over during the night and kept us awake squeaking and scratching on it. The lid was closed and on a slope so he kept slipping down it. But OJ likes it. They love a bit of cardboard don't they?
Well, your boy is settling down if still a bit clingy. I had to have a shower with the bathroom door open the first day as he miaowed outside to be let in. But now he doesn't have to be with you every single minute if he knows you are around. He did find the toilet flush the most fascinating thing he'd ever heard though, which was quite funny.
He has been introduced to the other two boys.
Nelson was very curious so I let him in. OJ did a kitten sideways hop and skip and a look of absolute horror came over Nelson's face. His life flashed before him and he took off with OJ in hot pursuit, thinking it was a great hoot. It's funny I've never seen Nelson do more than a slow waddle but by the third circuit they were really motoring with Nelson looking more and more desperate. At that point I managed to time it just right and open the door and Nelson flew out. Nelson is a lot more timid than OJ and I don't think he ever learnt to play. His youth was a hard time spent on the streets.
Henry, on the other hand, on first meeting OJ looked at him as if he was mad when he did the kitten shuffle at which point OJ found a very interesting smell on the floor which he nonchalantly had to sniff. Henry then just sauntered off shaking his head. Don't think he ever learnt to play either. Don't know where he came from but they seem to have used food to entertain him rather than play. He did do nose kisses with OJ but I think he was just smelling his breath to see if he had had anything better to eat than him.
OJ has been out in the summer house for an hour or so each day. He is so easy to just pick up and pop in his carrier. Doesn't mind at all. It was something a bit different for him and is getting him used to the outside world. He just watched me doing a bit of gardening, quite happily. He goes in his bedroom each night with no bother and we don't hear a peep from him until he gets up for his breakfast in the morning. He then has to run round to make sure everything is just as he left it, has his breakfast, finishes off Henry's breakfast and then has a bit nap. What a life eh!”
Will send some more pictures as he progresses with hopefully some of him playing in the garden eventually. The ultimate goal!"
