How we help local animals
We offer veterinary/financial assistance to help animals most in need in our branch area. Please contact us to find out more.
We also promote responsible pet ownership through neutering and microchippingcampaigns.
We foster unwanted animals and find them new homes. Please look at the Rehome a Pet pages for animals currently in our care.
We are sorry, but at the moment we are unable to assist with the rehoming of any dogs or guinea pigs.
Please note that we do not have an animal centre in our Branch Area
The Reading with Oxon Border branch of the RSPCA is a financially independent registered charity that carries out animal welfare work and fundraising activities in the local area. We are dedicated to rehoming cats and rabbits that come into our care from the central RSPCA via the local RSPCA inspectors and the general public.
In order to fund the rehoming process (which includes feeding and housing the animals whilst they are in our care), we undertake a range of activities including street collections and fundraising events.
The branch is run solely by volunteers under the guidance of a committee that is elected annually. We are always looking for new volunteers who can give their time and skills to help us fundraise, run the branch and ultimately rehome as many animals as possible.
We are responsible for the foster care and re-homing process of cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs in our geographical area.

Please note that we do not have an animal centre, all of the animal care work is carried out in the private homes of our volunteers.
History
Our branch of the RSPCA made its first appearance in the national society annual report in 1864. In 1929 the branch was known as ‘Reading with Berks, Hants and Oxon Border’ however Hampshire was removed in 1962. By 1980 our current title ‘Reading with Oxon Border’ was firmly established with nine members on the committee.
